A short write up on their Family Legacy
Legacy in the Built Environment:
A Family Built on Architecture, Innovation, and Leadership
Rooted in the pioneering spirit of Ar. EnP. Edilberto F. Florentino, LIKHA, a licensed and registered Architect and Environmental Planner moved his family’s journey in the world of architecture, designing, and planning that spans to his third generations as of this writing.
Ar. Edilberto F. Florentino started his architectural practice in the early 50’s, a sole proprietorship called Edilberto F. Florentino and Associates. He thought that architecture is not just designing spaces but also in designing construction methodology and building system. Thus, his vision for having a more efficient and affordable building system or construction methodology began in 1960. His invention of the Modular Building System is a visionary alternative to the well known “Conventional Construction”.
Inspired by his work, Ar. Edric Marco C. Florentino, fuap followed in his footsteps. He joined his father’s architectural firm and it became Edilberto F. Florentino and Edric Marco C. Florentino & Associates. Both of them co-developed what is now known as the Modular Ferro-Concrete Building System (MFCBS) — a resilient technology that combines the strength of steel I-beams, Thin shell concrete or reinforced concrete, with welded wire mesh and rebars. Aside from MFCBS, they also developed a construction methodology called MFC Thin-shell Hyperbolic Paraboloid. This is a thin-shell concrete system utilizing the strength from its forms rather than the post and lintel, which we normally know.
This system began with residential applications and evolved into medium-rise structures across various sectors. Most meaningfully, it became the backbone of our disaster-resilient housing solutions, especially in the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.
Every project they have undertaken is a source of pride — each a testament to giving their best, every time.
What began as a singular entity it grew to a father-son partnership. And today it become a multi-generational powerhouse. The third generation joined the team in the 2005 are Ar. Idr. Marian Eileen Florentino-Marudo, flap, piid is a licensed and registered Architect and Interior Designer. The husband, Ar. Carlo Fundador Marudo is a licensed and registered Architect and Environmental Planner. The fourth generation of the family, Gillian R. Adalia took up BS Architecture, and the husband is a licensed and registered Civil Engineer participated in various capacity.
They are a family of four generations that are involve in the design and built environment. In addition, they have four registered ASEAN Architects and two APEC Architect. Beyond practice, they held leadership roles in national and international professional organizations, advancing not just the growth of their company, the community, the country, as well as the development of the profession itself.
This is not just a story of buildings — it is a story of building legacy, values, and communities through innovation, excellence, and purpose-driven design.
